My very odd network experience

Recently friend of mine asked me to install Ubuntu 8.04 to his pc , and i said “Ok , no problem” and 10 minutes after i installed the fancy new distribution of linux my problems begun .

First of all the ubuntu started to ask me for passwords for almost anything i did .. i wanted to access the NTFS partition and message appears “Enter Password” i want to access network settings “Enter password” , and imagine how annoying is this when you have to access those thing like 10~20 times and the password is 10 char`s long mixed numbers and letters . Believe me , you don’t want such experience . Lets say after after some time i noticed the new function for password management . Ok half problems are gone . Now remains the problem why i cant connect to the local network and the rest of the internet using PPPOE . Strange huh ? Very if you have done this many times and suddenly something decided not to work properly under linux but under Windows ( the same connection on the same pc )it works perfectly . After 2 hours of struggling and manually entering ip`s getaways and dns servers it didn’t work , and my face expression was like “WTF?!?” so i logged back to Windows and i ran the ” ipconfig /all ” command and i copied everything and then i logged back to the nice looking Ubuntu and started to check everything again and when i looked at the line with the MAC address i saw a different mac address . Once again i my facial expression was “WTF?!?” . So after changing the MAC address everything worked perfectly .

Ah.. finally .. no more pain ..
